Laptop bag dilema...

My not-so-old laptop backpack is falling apart. One strap has come off and there is a hole at the top of the bag. Don't get this bag (Pacific Design Ruckus Laptop Backpack):

For the second weekend in a row, I have failed to replace it. This is because I can't decide if I should follow the advice of one of my trusted colleagues and get a more "professional looking bag":

Or stick with the backpack solution (probably better for the back...):

I travel a lot! Mostly it is not to customer sites. Maybe once a month. However, when entering an important meeting with a suit, nice shoes, and styled hair, the backpack thing just doesn't work too well.

Hmmm, maybe I'll just have to get both...

I'd get both. Can't you expense at least one? Also, clearly there is an opportunity here for laptop bag makers...why can't there be a back pack which appears * slightly * more professional looking? alas....

Whoa... my monopoly on the comments has come to an end :-/ Tragic.

Anyway, I vote for buying a smaller laptop. Then, get the "professional" bag for the small laptop. And expense everything. E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

If you're going down the back pack route, you have to get a JanSport. Everything else is completely unacceptable.

I'm back... momentarily.

Two quick things:

1.) You should change the "Steve" blog link to my MySpace blog ;-) Actually, you might want to remove the link entirely because my MySpace blog isn't safe for children :-/ Speaking of "children"...

2.) I just read a few of your daughter's blog posts, and they're amazing. It's a little disheartening to know that a 3rd grader writes just as well as (if not better than) me. I'm going to cry myself to sleep now... after I finish working :-P

Steve, so basically you go to bed as I am getting up. How long has this been going on??

Katie, I am so tempted to expense whatever I buy. I've gone through two bags since I started traveling so much... Maybe we should get into the backpack business...? :)

Oh - and I am getting a smaller laptop this week. It's very exciting!

I've been going to bed at 3 or 4a and waking up 4-7 hours later for many years now. And of course, I'll pull the oh-so-exciting all-nighter from time to time... just to make sure my body still loves me ;-)
